Serious violence

The Serious Violence Duty requirements came into effect in January 2023 and introduced a new statutory duty for specified authorities to collaborate to prevent and reduce serious violence. 

Community Safety Partnerships (CSP’s) are required to complete a violence reduction Strategic Needs Assessment (SNA), produce a response strategy by 31 January 2024 and review progress against the strategy.  

Salford has adopted the following definition for serious violence: “Serious physical violence or the threat of such violence towards another person(s), which often involves the use of a weapon.”

Salford’s Serious Violence Reduction Strategy acknowledges the influence of key elements, including, but not limited to, organised crime, criminal exploitation, child sexual exploitation and complex safeguarding. Salford CSP’s serious violence duty strategy can be downloaded below.
