Upcoming roadworks in Peel Green – early 2026

Over the coming months, a series of essential improvement works will be carried out in the Peel Green area. These works are designed to:

  • Upgrade utilities to strengthen local infrastructure
  • Introduce flood prevention measures to improve resilience against extreme weather
  • Deliver safety improvements for all road users

To complete these projects, various traffic restrictions will be in place at different stages. Full details are outlined below.

United Utilities

Date: 2 January 2026

Location: Liverpool Road, Winton

Traffic management: Lane closure near Sealand Drive between 10am and 2pm

Details: Routine jetting, inspection, and CCTV surveillance works on sewer assets on behalf of United Utilities.

Date: 5 January to 8 February 2026

Location: Liverpool Road (Eccles and Irlam)

Traffic management:

  • 24-hour lane closures from Barley Farm to Junction 11 roundabout
  • Road narrows on the Eccles side from Lansdale Street to Junction 11 roundabout

Details: HV electrical works on behalf of Ionity to power EV chargers at Barley Farm.

Date: 12 January to 19 January 2026

Location: Barton Lane, Eccles

Traffic management: Road closure to repair surface water drop shafts

Details: Trial holes on the sewer to investigate blockages within the surface water drainage system. Upgrades to low bridge warning signs also planned.

Location: Liverpool Road, Eccles 

Traffic management:

  • One-way road closure: 8pm to 6am on 9, 10, 16, 17 and 18 February
  • Multi-way signals: 9.30am to 3.30pm on 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20 February

Details: Road resurfacing

United Utilities

Date: 2 March to 19 April 2026

Location: Peel Green Road (closed 24/7 at the junction with Haddon Road)

Details: Installation of a new 1200mm diameter drainage pipe to increase network capacity and address flooding issues on Peel Green Road.
