During a project, you may need to submit notices and request inspections at various stages.

Commencement and building work regarded as commenced notices
You must notify Building Control before starting work.

Submitting a Commencement Notice does not arrange an inspection. Inspections must be requested separately.
Once work reaches the statutory commencement stage, a Building Work Regarded as Commenced Notice must be submitted within five days.

Building Control inspections are not automatically booked when notices are submitted.
Where an inspection is required, it remains the responsibility of the person carrying out the work to arrange the inspection at the appropriate stage.

The client is responsible for appointing a Principal Designer and Principal Contractor where required.

The client (or new client) must notify Building Control within 14 calendar days of the date that person became the dutyholder.

A Completion Notice must be submitted to the council within five days of the work being completed.

A completion certificate cannot be issued until:
the completion notice has been received
all required inspections have been completed
any necessary declarations and supporting documentation have been provided
Where a building subject to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 is occupied before all work is complete, an Occupation Notice may be required.
