Current roadworks and closures

Liverpool Road

Emergency works are currently underway following the exposure of a sink hole on the following section of highway:

  • A57 Liverpool Road, Eccles at the junction with Green Lane.

During works underway to install a new high voltage cable within the carriageway a large sinkhole was exposed, investigations are currently underway following which emergency repairs will commence. Further updates will be provided as soon as possible however delays can be expected.

Littleton Road

Temporary signals will be in operation on Monday 16 May 2022 between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm on the following section of highway:

  • Littleton Road, Salford adjacent to Romney Street.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable essential repairs to a manhole cover and frame.

Minor delays can be expected.

Boothshall Way, Worsley

Temporary three way signals will be in operation on Wednesday 18 May 2022 between the hour of 9.30am and 3pm on the following section of highway:

  • Boothshall Way, Worsley at the junction with Highclove Lane.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable a replacement manhole cover and frame to be installed.

Minor delays can be expected.

Ash Drive, Swinton

Temporary signals will be in operation on Wednesday 18 May 2022 for a period of one day on the following section of highway:

  • Ash Drive, Swinton near to the junction with Moss Bank Grove.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable the installation of a water flow meter within the carriageway.

Very minor delays can be expected however once works commence they should take no longer than two hours to complete and the signals will be under manual operation throughout the two hour period.

A666 Bolton Road / Agecroft Road

Temporary three way signals will be in operation from Saturday 21 May 2022 for a period of two days and again the following weekend from Saturday 28 May for a further two days on the following section of highway:

  • A666 Bolton Road, Swinton at the junction with Agecroft Road.

The signals are required to provide lane closures to enable the installation of a high voltage cable crossing the main carriageway.

The signals will be under manual operation between the hours of 9am and 6pm both Saturdays and Sundays . there will also be closures of Shirley Avenue and Beverly Road during these times to reduce the need for temporary signals on the arterial route.

A6 Chorley Road

Temporary signals will be in operation on Wednesday 18 May 2022 between the hours of 10am and 2pm on the following section of highway:

  • A6 Chorley Road, Swinton near to the junction with Boothby Road.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable the installation of a water flow meter within the carriageway.

Minor delays can be expected however once works commence they should take no longer than two hours to complete and the signals will be under manual operation throughout the two hour period.

A6 Chorley Road (2)

An inside lane closure will be in effect on Tuesday 17 May 2022 between the hours of 9.30am and 3pm on the following section of highway:

  • A6 Chorley Road, Swinton north west bound prior to the junction and just past the junction with the A572 Worsley Road.

The inside lane closure is required to enable safe access to the 5G network cabinets adjacent to the carriageway.

Minor delays can be expected.

Tootal Road

Temporary three way signals will be in operation from 9am Monday 23 May for a period of up to three days on the following section of highway:

  • Tootal Road, Salford at the junction with Kennedy Road.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable consequential repairs to be carried out to the carriageway following repairs to a mains water burst.

Minor delays can be expected however the signals will be under manual control during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays. 

Church Street, Pendleton

A road closure will be in effect on Monday 23 May 2022 from 8pm until 6am Tuesday morning on the following section of highway:

  • Church Street, Pendleton roundabout north bound approach, there will be no direct access to Hankinson Way for this 10 hour period.

The closure is required to carry out essential works to the sewers.

A small diversion around Pendleton roundabout back toward Hankinson Way will be signed.

Cobden Street

A road closure will be in effect from Tuesday 24 May 2022 for a period of 18 days on the following section of highway:

  • Cobden Street, Salford at the junction with Laundry Street.

The closure is required to enable the completion of gas main installation works.

A diversion will be signed via Greenwood Street joining Laundry Street.

Claremont Road

A road closure will be in effect from Tuesday 17 May 2022 for a period of up to 10 days on the following section of highway:

  • Claremont Road Salford between the junctions of Eccles Old Road and Cholmondeley Road, Doveleys Road.

The closure is required to enable major sewer repairs.

Diversions will be signed via Eccles Old Road, Lancaster Road and Cholmondeley Road for south west bound traffic and Eccles Old Road, Langworthy Road, Bolton Road and Doveleys Road for north east bound traffic.  

A57 Liverpool Road, Eccles

A lane closure will be in effect on Wednesday 25 May 2022 between the hours of 9.30am and 3pm on the following section of highway:

  • A57 Liverpool Road, Eccles inside lane, south west bound toward Irlam opposite the entrance to Barton Aerodrome.

The lane closure is required to enable an electrical disconnection and connection to be carried out.

Minor delays can be expected.

A572 Worsley Road, Swinton

Temporary signals will be in operation from Wednesday 25 May 2022 for a period of up to 13 days on the following section of highway:

  • A572 Worsley Road, Swinton just east of the junction of Partington Lane.

The signals are required to provide a lane closure to enable the installation of a new electrical mains to supply power to a new housing development adjacent to the carriageway.

Delays can be expected and whilst the signals will be under manual operation during peak periods motorists are asked to avoid the area due to the proximity to the A580 East Lancashire Road junction.

Cromwell Road, Salford

Temporary three way signals will be in operation from Saturday 28 May 2022 for a period of two days on the following section of highway:

  • A576 Cromwell Road, Salford at the junction with Lichfield Street.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable the essential rebuild of a manhole chamber and replace the frame and cover.

Delays can be expected however the signals will be under manual control between the hours of 9am and 5pm to further reduce such potential delays.

Langworthy Road

Temporary signals will be in operation on Saturday 21 May 2022 between the hours of 8am and 5pm on the following section of highway:

  • Langworthy Road, Salford near to the junction with Jubilee Street.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable a new water connection to be installed within the carriageway.

Minor delays can be expected.

Lower Broughton Road

Temporary signals will be in operation on Sunday 22 May 2022 between the hours of 8am and 5pm on the following section of highway:

  • Lower Broughton Road, Salford north of the junction with Frederick Road.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable a new water connection to be installed within the carriageway.

Minor delays can be expected.

A6 Manchester Road, Swinton

Temporary signals will be in operation from Saturday 21 May 2022 for a period of up to four days on the following section of highway:

  • A6 Manchester Road, Swinton near to the junction with East Lynn Drive, west of the M61 motorway bridges.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable a chamber rebuild within the carriageway.

Minor delays can be expected however the signals will be under manual operation during work day peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Folly Lane, Swinton

A road closure will be in effect from on Saturday 21 May 2022 between the hours of 6am and 7pm on the following section of highway:

  • Folly Lane, Swinton at the junction of South Avenue.

In addition to the closure, temporary signals will also be in operation from Monday 16 May for a period of seven days.

The closure and signals are required to complete the works to install a new pedestrian crossing and supporting infrastructure.

Whilst a diversion will be signed for the closure of Folly Lane via the A572 Worsley Road, the signals will likely cause delays however the signals will be under manual operation during these works during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Worsley Road North

Temporary signals will be in operation from Monday 9 May 2022 for a period of up to six weeks on the following section of highway:

  • Worsley Road North, Walkden.

The signals are required to provide a moving lane closure to install a new gas main as part of a city wide gas main improvement works programme.

Delays can be expected however the signals will be under manual operation during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Partington Lane, Swinton

Temporary signals will be in operation from Wednesday 18 May 2022 for a period of up to seven days on the following section of highway:

  • Partington Lane, Swinton opposite the junction with Fernlea Crescent.

The signals are required to provide a lane closure to enable the installation of a high voltage cable and ducting within the carriageway.

Delays can be expected however the signals will be under manual operation during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Liverpool Road, Cadishead

Temporary signals will be in operation from Monday 16 May 2022 for a period of up to three days on the following section of highway:

  • Liverpool Road, Cadishead, near to the junction with Moss Lane.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable 5G works to the telecoms tower.

Minor delays can be expected.

Greenleach Lane

Temporary signals will be in operation from Saturday 21 May 2022 for a period of two days on the following section of highway:

  • Greenleach Lane, Worsley.

The signals are required to provide a small lane closure to enable essential repairs to a damaged water main and valve.

Minor delays can be expected.

Renshaw Street, Eccles

A road closure will be in effect from Monday 9 May 2022 for a period of up to nine days on the following section of highway:

  • Renshaw Street, Eccles from the junction with Liverpool Road.

The closure is required to install a high voltage cable within the carriageway of Liverpool Road crossing the junction of Renshaw Street. Temporary signals will also be in operation along this length of Liverpool Street during this time however they will be under manual operation during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Diversions for the Renshaw Street closure will be singed via Trafford Road, Renshaw Avenue and Ellesmere Street.

Nelson Street, Eccles

A road closure will be in effect from Monday 9 May 2022 for a period of up to nine days on the following section of highway:

  • Nelson Street, Eccles from the junction with Liverpool Road.

The closure is required to install a high voltage cable within the carriageway of Liverpool Road crossing the junction of Nelson Street. Temporary signals will also be in operation along this length of Liverpool Street during this time however they will be under manual operation during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Diversions for the Nelson Street closure will be singed via Green Lane and Cromwell Road west bound and Milton Street and Cromwell Road for west bound traffic.

Lewis Street, Eccles

A road closure will be in effect from Monday 9 May 2022 for a period of up to nine days on the following section of highway:

  • Lewis Street, Eccles from the junction with Liverpool Road.

The closure is required to install a high voltage cable within the carriageway of Liverpool Road crossing the junction of Lewis Street. Temporary signals will also be in operation along this length of Liverpool Street during this time however they will be under manual operation during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Diversions for the Lewis Street closure will be singed via Station Road and or Trafford Road.

Barton Road, Eccles (One Way Closure)

A one way road closure will be in effect from Monday 9 May 2022 for a period of up to 18 days on the following section of highway:

  • Barton Road, Eccles from the A57 Liverpool Road in a north bound direction toward Trafford.

The one way closure is required to enable footway refurbishments to be carried out in a safe manner.

Diversions will be signed via Peel Green Road. south bound traffic will remain unaffected.

A666 Manchester Road, Swinton

Temporary signals and or lane closure will be in operation from Monday 11 April 2022 for a period of up to 6 weeks on the following section of highway:

  • A666 Manchester Road, Swinton.

The signals are required to provide a moving lane closure to enable the installation of a new gas main as part of a city wide project to renew the aging gas mains.

Delays can be expected however the signals will be under manual operation during peak periods to further reduce such potential delays.

Various Location (No Parking) As Specified below

The following section of carriageway will be restricted from parking from Monday 11 April 2022 for a period of up to one month:

The sections of highway stated above will close as and when required from Monday 11 April 2022 and will be signed at each location with dates when those restrictions are to be implemented. The purpose of the temporary no parking restrictions is to remove vehicles from the highway to carryout maintenance and introduce permanent waiting restrictions. Any vehicles left in situ during this time will be subject to a penalty charge notice and or Police action where deemed necessary.

A6 Chapel Street

Bus lane suspensions will be in effect from Monday 25 April 2022 for a period of four weeks on the following section of highway:

  • A6 Chapel Street, Salford in both directions of travel between Trinity Way and Oldfield Road on the Liverpool bound section of the carriageway and between St Philips Place and Ford Street on the Manchester bound side of the carriageway.

The bus lane suspensions are required to allow all vehicular traffic access during the installation of a new tree line being placed in the centre reserve as part of the Chapel Street regeneration works.

Additional delays can be expected during these works due to the dual use of the single lane for both motorists and public transport.

A666 Bolton Road, Swinton

Works are due to commence from Monday 14 February 2022 for a period of up to five months on the following section of highway:

  • A666 Bolton Road, Swinton between the M60 Motorway off slip and the southern junction with Queensway and Station Road.

The works are part of the delivery of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement (SBNI) project to introduce bus lanes along the arterial route network. During the works the use of temporary signals will be required to provide lane closures, when signals are in use they will be monitored during peak periods to maximise traffic flow.

Delays can be expected during these major upgrade works.

A6 Broad Street (Bus Lane)

A bus lane closure will be in effect from Monday 11 October 2021 for a period of up to 14 months on the following section of highway:

  • A6 Broad Street, Salford east bound (Manchester bound) between the junctions of Strawberry Road and Albion Way crossing the Frederick junction.

The bus lane closure is required to enable major highway construction works to deliver the Salford Bolton Network Improvement (SBNI) project as part of a city wide scheme to improve bus routes. In addition addhoc overnight lane closures to a second lane will be required.

Delays can be expected.

Cow Lane

A one way closure order is currently in effect until 30 September 2022 on the following section of highway:

  • Cow Lane, Salford from the junction with Craven Street.

The one way order is required to service deliveries and site access to a new development currently underway following its closure earlier in the year and will run from east to west toward Oldfield Road.

Trinity Way, Irwell Street junction

Lane closures will be in effect from July 2021 until May 2023 as stated below:

  • Irwell Street, north bound, will be reduced to one lane.
  • Trinity Way, from Irwell Street south bound, will be reduced to one lane.
  • Trinity Way, south bound toward Quay Street turning right onto Irwell Street, will be reduced to one lane.

The above stated lane closures are required to enable the development of the land adjacent to the carriageway at the junction.

Delays can be expected during peak periods and motorists are advised to find an alternative route.

A5063 Trafford Road

Major improvement works are due to commence from Monday 6 July 2020 for a period of up to 24 months on the following section of highway:

  • A5063 Trafford Road, Salford from the boundary with Trafford to the M602 roundabout, both directions. In addition there will be a left turn ban in effect from Tuesday 4 January 2022 from Trafford Road in a south bound direction joining Broadway. Diversions for the left turn ban will be signed via Eccles New Road and Langworthy Road South.

Overnight road closures will also come into effect from 9 April 2022 and will be advertised on site in advance as and when they are to be implemented.

The works will be carried out under lane closure at 100 metre intervals, the works are major in nature and will see the introduction of new cycle lanes, lighting, new carriageway layout and new traffic signal layout.

Delays can be expected during these works especially should traffic flows return to pre COVID-19 conditions and on match days at Old Trafford, motorists are advised to find alternative routes at that time.
