Different types of pension

Defined contribution - a pension where you build up a pot of money you and possibly your employers have put into it. What you'll get will depend on the amount you put into it, how long the money's invested, and how well any investments have done.

Defined benefit - a pension that gives you an income based on your salary and length of time with your employer. This pension is a type of workplace pension, sometimes called a final salary pension.

State pension - the pension you get from the government when you reach state pension age.
