There a number of large scale projects taking place across Salford affecting public transport and the local road network. To help you plan your journeys better, we have listed the key details below and included relevant external links for more information.

Area near Frederick Road and University of Salford

Salford Rise

Dates: 

  • Ongoing works until autumn 2026

Traffic restrictions:

  • Footway closures on sections of Frederick Road until June 2025
  • Road closures to start in July 2025

Salford Crescent train station

  • Ongoing works until 2026.

Station closures:

  • To carry out the work, Salford Crescent and the railway between Manchester
    and Bolton will close for several weekends between March and September 2025:

April 2025 12 13, 20 and 27
May 2025 17 4 and 18
September 13 14
  • When the line is closed, rail replacement buses will run between Manchester and Bolton. Some train services between Manchester, Wigan and Preston will be diverted via an alternative route.

  • Closure on a section of University Road West until 2026

  • Frederick Road from 9 June to 15 June
  • Seaford Road from 13 June to 30 June
  • Gerald Road from 30 June to 10 July
  • Littleton Road from 9 June to 30 June
  • Agecroft Road from 30 June to 5 August

Side road closures – indicative dates:

  • Welford Street – one day only between 23 June and 27 June
  • Coniston Street – one day only between 25 June and 29 June
  • Haddon Street – one day only between 2 July and 6 July
  • Beeley Street – one day only between 4 July and 8 July
  • Rowsley Street – one day only between 8 July and 12 July

City Centre

Chapel Street and New Bailey Gateway

  • Works started on 22 April and are due to complete in early 2026

Traffic restrictions from 5 May 2025:

  • One-way closure on Chapel Street west-bound (heading towards Salford) between Blackfriars Road and New Bailey
  • East-bound traffic (heading towards Manchester) is not affected
