There a number of large scale projects taking place across Salford affecting public transport and the local road network. To help you plan your journeys better, we have listed the key details below and included relevant external links for more information.

Salford Rise

Traffic restrictions:

  • Footway closures on sections of Frederick Road until June 2025
  • Road closures to start in June 2025

Salford Crescent train station

  • Ongoing works until 2026.

Station closures:

  • To carry out the work, Salford Crescent and the railway between Manchester
    and Bolton will close for several weekends between March and September 2025:

  • When the line is closed, rail replacement buses will run between Manchester and Bolton. Some train services between Manchester, Wigan and Preston will be diverted via an alternative route.

  • Lissadel Street: road closure from 31 March to 6 April 2025
  • Lissadel Street: two-way signals from 7 April to 24 April 2025
  • Lissadel Street and Broughton Road junction: multiway signals from 25 April to 27 April 2025
  • Broughton Road: temporary signals on four weekends: 3 to 4 May, 10 to 11 May, 17 to 18 May and 24 to 25 May 
  • Cobden Street: two-way signals from 28 April to 2 May and from 5 May to 9 May 2025
  • Harding Street: road closure from 12 May to 16 May 2025
  • Greenwood Street: 
    • road closure from 19 May to 23 May and from 26 May to 30 May 2025
    • two-way signals from 31 May to 6 June 2025
    • road closure from 7 June to 8 June 2025

City Centre

Chapel Street and New Bailey Gateway

  • Works due to start after Easter 2025 until January 2026

Traffic restrictions from 5 May 2025:

  • One-way closure on Chapel Street west-bound (heading back to Salford) between Blackfriars Road and Trinity Way
  • East-bound traffic (heading towards Manchester) is not affected
