Check that you are getting all the benefits available to your household. You can use an independent, free and anonymous benefits calculator through the government’s website to check what benefits you are entitled to and an estimate of what you may get.

For support with Universal Credit and other benefits

Salford City Council's Welfare Rights Service offers free, confidential, specialist advice, case work and representation on welfare rights for people who live in Salford. The service can help residents work out what they are entitled to, assist with forms and represent client’s cases when appealing a benefits decision. You can access the Welfare Rights Service online or call 0800 345 7375 Monday to Friday 10am to 12 noon.

For help claiming Universal Credit, you can call Salford Citizens Advice Help to Claim service 0800 144 8444 between 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Salford Citizen’s Advice can also assist you with other benefits, including general advice and guidance on filling out forms. Call the advice line on 0808 278 7802 between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday. Or 0161 850 5053 between 6pm and 9pm, seven days a week. Advisors are also available at Pendleton and Eccles Gateways on Mondays and Wednesdays 9am to 2pm, Walkden Gateway on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 2pm, Cadishead library on Tuesdays from 10am to 12.30pm and the Broughton Hub on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 3pm.

The Salford Unemployed and Community Resource Centre can help to provide advice and information on a range of benefits. You can contact the team on 0161 789 2999. Free drop in sessions with advice on welfare benefit issues on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 11.30am at Salford Unemployed and Community Resource Centre, 84-86 Liverpool Road, Eccles, M30 0WZ

For help with a council-administered benefit, such as Council Tax Support or housing benefit

Chat with a BetterOff advisor face to face in a Gateway. Our Gateway centres are ‘one stop shops’ for a wide range of council and community services and facilities. Located across Salford, they have free internet and are open late every weekday - Monday to Thursday 8am to 10pm, Friday 8am to 6.30pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm. You can find a centre at these locations and call in anytime during opening hours:
