Chapel Street East Phase 1

Notice is hereby given that Salford City Council proposes to make Orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the titles and effects which will be as follows:

City of Salford (Chapel Street area) (Prohibition of Waiting and Loading, Restricted Parking Zone, Pay and Display Bays, Loading Bays, Loading-Only Street, Limited Waiting Parking Places, Car Club Bay, Electric Vehicle Bay, Prohibition of Vehicles and Amendment) Order 2024

The Order will introduce the following restrictions:

No Waiting At Any Time: 

  • Chapel Street, both sides, from 11.4m east of A6042 Trinity Way, for 11.5m easterly.
  • Chapel Street, both sides, from Blackfriars Street / Blackfriars Road, for 20.4m south-westerly.

City of Salford (Chapel Street Area, Salford) (One-Way Traffic, Prohibition of Vehicles, Prohibition of U-Turn and Prohibition of Right Turn) Order 2024

One-Way Traffic

  • Spaw Street, from its junction with Chapel Street to its junction with Browncross Street – permitted direction of travel - southbound only;
  • Bury Street, from its junction with Cross Street to its junction with Garden Lane – permitted direction of travel - northbound only;
  • Cross Street, from Blackfriars Road to Bury Street - permitted direction of travel - westbound only

Prohibition of Motor Vehicles

  • Bury Street, from 63.3m south-east of Cross Street, to Chapel Street.

No U-Turn

  • Chapel Street, no vehicle shall be driven from the eastbound carriageway to the westbound carriageway around the eastern end of the central reserve located opposite Spaw Street.
  • Chapel Street, no vehicle shall be driven from the westbound carriageway to the eastbound carriageway around the western end of the central reserve at the traffic signal junction with New Bailey Street and Bloom Street.

No Right Turn  

  • From Chapel Street eastbound carriageway - Into Spaw Street.
  • From Gore Street eastbound carriageway - Into New Bailey Street.

Footway Conversion To Cycle Track On Chapel Street

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the City of Salford proposes to convert the following lengths of existing footway to cycle track use under section 66(4) and 65(1) of the Highways Act 1980. The footways specified below will be converted to Cycle Tracks (with segregated areas for pedestrian use):

  • Chapel Street, north side, from a point, 66.6 metres east of the south-easterly projected kerbline of A6042 Trinity Way, for a distance of 37.4 metres in an easterly direction, having a width of 2 metres.
  • Chapel Street, north side, from a point 34.4 metres north-east of the north-easterly projected kerbline of Spaw Street, in a north-easterly direction to a point 29.3 metres south-west of the south-westerly projected kerbline of Blackfriars Road, having a width that varies between 1.5 and 2 metres.
  • Chapel Street, south side, from a point 29.8 metres south-west of the south-westerly projected kerbline of Blackfriars Street, to a point 6.6 metres north-east of the north-easterly projected kerbline of Spaw Street having a width that varies between 1.4 metres and 2 metres.
  • Chapel Street, south side, from a point 66.6 metres east of the south-easterly projected kerbline of A6042 Trinity Way, for a distance of 48.3 metres in an easterly direction, having a width of 2 metres.

Section 23 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Zebra, Pelican and Puffin Pedestrian Crossings Regulations and General Direction 1997

Proposed Introduction of Zebra Crossings and a Toucan Crossing on Chapel Street, Salford

Notice is hereby given that Salford City Council intends to introduce:

Zebra Crossings across proposed Cycle Tracks (currently footway of Chapel Street), as follows:

  • Chapel Street, north side, with the centre point 45.4 metres north-east of the north-easterly projected kerbline of Spaw Street, having a width of 2.5m and depth of 1.5m.
  • Chapel Street, north side, with the centre point 75 metres south-west of the south-westerly projected kerbline of Blackfriars Road having a width of 2.5 metres and depth of 1.5 metres.
  • Chapel Street, south side, with the centre point 23.6 metres north-east of the north-easterly projected kerbline of Quay Street having a width of 2.5 metres and depth of 1.5 metres.

Toucan Pedestrian Crossing on:

  • Chapel Street, with the mid-point located 16.4 metres north-east of the north-easterly projected kerbline of Dearmans Place having a width of 4.6 metres and depth of 10.2 metres (the controlled area will extend for 22.7 metres in a south-westerly direction and 22.5 metres in a north-easterly direction, measured from the mid-point of the crossing).

Existing Orders will be amended to be consistent with the proposals. Copies of the proposed Orders together with the plans showing the proposals, a statement of the council's reasons for proposing to make the Orders and the Orders it is proposed to amend may be inspected at Swinton Gateway, 100 Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 6BP Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm.
