Council off-street parking places

Salford City Council proposes to make the above order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the proposed order is to consolidate the current off-street parking provisions into one order. 

The following provisions will apply to the off street car parks listed below.

Church Street car park (the car park bounded by Church Street, Crompton Street and Chorley Road, Swinton)

  • Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays) from 8am to 6pm. The following charges will apply:
    • Any single visit up to 30 minutes - free
    • Up to two hours and 30 minutes - £1.50
    • Over two hours and 30 minutes - £3.50

Civic Centre visitors’ car park (the car park fronting Unity House off Chorley Road, Swinton)

  • Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 7am to 6pm. The following charges will apply:
    • Any single visit up to 30 minutes - free
    • Up to two hours and 30 minutes - £1.50
    • Over two hours and 30 minutes - £3.50

Salford City Council off-street staff car parks

  • Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 7am to 7pm.
  • Employees of Salford City Council who meet the eligibility criteria will be able to purchase a staff permit to park in the following off-street car parks on Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm for the following locations:
    • Civic Centre staff car park (the car park bounded by Chorley Road and Partington Lane, Swinton North).
    • Gateway staff car park (the car park located off Union Street, Swinton South).
    • St Simon Street car park (the car park fronting St Simon Street, Irewell Riverside).

The staff permit will be available for purchase on a monthly basis at a cost of 1% of the employee's monthly gross pay. 

The following parking places for specified vehicles are available in the above car parks.

  • Car club parking places at the Salford Civic Centre staff car park, Swinton (13 bays)
  • Electric vehicle parking places at the Salford Civic Centre staff car park, Swinton (seven bays)
  • Electric vehicle parking places at Salford Civic Centre visitor’s car park, Swinton. Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm. Maximum stay four hours. No return within four hours (two bays)

  • Disabled vehicles parking places for staff permit holders at:
    • Civic Centre staff car park, Swinton (20 bays)
    • Gateway staff (rear) car park, Swinton (two bays)
    • Salford City Council car park at St Simon Street (two bays)
  • Disabled persons vehicle parking places. Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) 7am to 6pm, maximum stay four hours. No return within one hour at:
    • Civic Centre visitors car park, Swinton (11 bays)
    • Gateway visitors car park (five bays)
  • Disabled persons vehicle parking places. Monday to Saturday (excluding public holidays) 8am to 6pm, maximum stay four hours. No return within one hour at:
    • Church Street car park, Swinton (two bays)
  • Limited waiting parking place. Operative 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Waiting limited to 20 minutes. No return within two hours at the following locations:
    • Gateway staff car park located off Union Street (two bays)
    • Gateway visitors car park situated between Gateway and Church Street public car park (five bays)

The classes of vehicles that may use the off-street car parks listed above are any passenger vehicle, dual purpose vehicle, goods vehicle having a weight not exceeding 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight or 1,525 kilograms weight, a disabled person’s vehicle, an invalid carriage or motorcycle displaying in the relevant position a valid staff parking permit or a valid parking permit.

A copy of the proposed order, which contains the usual exemptions, together with plans showing the parking places and a statement of the council’s reasons for proposing to make the order may be inspected at Salford Civic Centre, Chorley Road, Swinton, M27 5DA, between 8.30am and 4.30pm from Monday to Friday.
